They are commonly used for shallow, deep and blind holes. Their great advantage is the accuracy, speed and ease of measurement. They also allow you to determine shape deviations such as roundness or cylindricity.
Clock dial - construction
The dial gauge consists of several important components. One of the most important is the dial gauge sensor, from whose dial in the form of a clock the measurement can be read. Alternatively, a digital sensor with a display can also be used. The tool also consists of a mandrel located in its central part and a measuring tip with a bridge, part of which can be replaced depending on the size of the hole being measured.
Mid-day clock - how to measure correctly?
The key step during the measurement process is to set the reference dimension on the device, as the values are not measured directly. The indicated result is the difference between the reference value and the actual measured diameter. To make the correct setting, you can use, among other things:
- calibration plates
- a reference ring,
- external micrometer.
After placing the diameter gauge at a slight angle in the standard, move it left and right in an axis perpendicular to the diameter gauge axis to find the point (called the turning point) where the sensor indicates the minimum value. At this point, set the sensor dial to 0 (or enter the reference value in the digital sensor - PRESET function). The measurement procedure is identical to the setting procedure, with the difference that no further actions are performed on the dial/digital sensor. The minimum point found is the result of the measurement. In the case of a dial sensor, the result is the difference between the actual value and the reference value. In the case of a digital sensor, the result is the actual value.
